The Haazinu
Trip to Israel
Haazinu
Charitable Foundation joins Shaarei Tzedek Hospital
to Help the Hearing-impaired
Recently
Haazinu organized an unprecedented mission to Israel to provide
Israeli cochlear implant surgeons with the opportunity to
observe first hand how a master surgeon plies his craft. Moshe
Yaroslawitz, Executive Director of Haazinu, and Shaya Pinter,
its Administrator, accompanied world famous cochlear implant
surgeon Dr. J.Thomas Roland, JR. Director of the Division
of Otology and Neurology at NYU Medical Center, as he lectured
and shared his surgical expertise with doctors at Shaarei
Tzedek Hospital in Jerusalem and Schneider Hospital in Tel
Aviv. Dr Roland performed several implant surgeries at Shaarei
Tzedek, and one at the Schneider Hospital.
Every
moment of Dr Rolands trip was dedicated to spreading
the word about cochlear implants and helping doctors and parents
learn as much as possible. Dr. Roland lectured on the subject
of cochlear implantation to doctors and residents attached
to the Otolaryngology Departments of Shaarei Tzedek and Schneider
hospitals. In addition he also lectured to parents, professionals,
and lay leaders on Wednesday, December 17th on the subject
of expanding the use of cochlear devices. A question and answer
period followed the presentation.
Among
the highpoints of the week were the visits paid by Dr. Roland
to Rabbi Tuvia Weiss Shlita, Gavvad of Edah Chareide of Yerushalayim
and Rabbi Nosson Zvi Finkel, Rosh HaYeshiva Mir Yerushalyim.
To really top it off, Dr Roland even managed to examine a
child at the Kotel!
In particular, Haazinu would like to thank Dr Roland for giving
so generously of his time and talent to help hearing-impaired
Israeli children. We look forward to continuing a meaningful
and productive relationship with him for many years to come.
Haazinu would also like to take this opportunity to recognize
AV Israel, & Tradis GAT and the Cochlear Corporation for
their help and assistance.
